In an essay titled “Your entire life will change when you realize you need more action, not information,” Tim Denning calls the dopamine from gathering information “a dangerous drug” (a framing he credits to Sahil Bloom) and argues that “the false god is that gathering more information will solve our biggest problems.” The pattern fits present bias, described by Kahneman and Tversky: research feels productive today while deferring the act of building.
The loop, not the library
His prescription — “minimum viable information” — is the lean-startup loop applied to a career: build the smallest real thing, ship it, measure the response, add only what reality shows is missing. The information is the output of the loop, not the input. Make reversible decisions fast in Jeff Bezos’s two-way-door sense, and, as Denning signs off, “get your dopamine from action.”
